At 4pm UK time, an independent review of @savechildrenuk will report. Here’s what @irinnews reported earlier this year.
#MeToo #AidToo #TimesUp

In a @savechildrenuk press release, responding to one of several leaks about its handling of #MeToo, review lead Suzanne Shale (@ethicsconsult) said "past events may have caused distress to staff" and "we will listen to those accounts very carefully..."
The March statement, was in response to earlier reviews that had found problems in the NGO's "culture" and "failures" in the way it handled cases of sexual harassment and misconduct: savethechildren.org.uk/news/media-cen…
These are the terms of reference for the independent review into workplace culture at Save the Children UK: savethechildren.org.uk/content/dam/gb… #AidToo #MeToo
Here is the report of the @savechildrenuk review into its workplace culture, which includes a detailed review of how the NGO handled or mishandled a review of workplace culture in 2015: It wasn't given to all trustees nor to the head of HR.

The members of a Save UK board committee set up to follow up on the 2015 report hadn't been given it to read, nor did they know its recommendations. Also board member and incoming CEO @KevinAtSave hadn't got it either.
(We learn more about the previous 2015 review from the BBC's @ManveenRana that we do in this report: bbc.com/news/uk-432878…)
The 2015 culture report, one of two commissioned from lawyers, appears to have looked into misconduct by the former CEO Justin Forsyth and how it was handled. Today's report led by @ethicsconsult, recognises there were confidentiality issues in circulating the report.
Discuss: "life on a secure compound with limited opportunities for relaxation beyond alcohol and the company of close colleagues, and the stress of the daily work can lead to behaviour that in other circumstances might be considered inappropriate." (Page 34)
Now, the current state of play, based on UK-based interviews and a staff survey. (total staff number is given as 1,068 – staff overseas don't seem to be part of it). Interesting: @savechildrenuk has 10 hierarchical layers and did not supply an full organogram to the reviewers.
It's not clear what the total headcount is, @savechildrenuk hired 577 people in 2017.
There follows a lengthy and detailed assessment of HR practice and staff attitudes. Feel free to dive in. The report finds plenty positive (or at least consistent with other organisations in the sector). But...
... two out of five staff did not think inappropriate behaviour by senior staff would be properly handled. This, despite a hotline, a "zero-tolerance" policy, and a bruising period of public attention and self-reflection. #SaveToo (page 72)
The report suggests politely that @savechildrenuk can barely keep up with all the initiatives it comes up with: "projects arise with conspicuous frequency so the charity needs to clearly prioritise its various initiatives."
Nevertheless, what it recommends is: "publish internally, implement and evaluate a comprehensive integrated strategy" to deal with the issues raised. Among the actions: publish board minutes...
Recommendation 2:
- "reduce the level of workforce incivility"
- "ensure employees receive the practical and emotional support they need to do their work."
Recommendation 3:
"a more ethnically and socially diverse workforce and Board of Trustees"
Recommendation 4:

"Review arrangements for whistleblowing"
Recommendation 5:

"Ensure the HR department is adequately supported and resourced"
This is really quite dull. I may have to unfollow myself.
49% of Save the Children UK's staff have limited confidence in their management's commitment to deal with issues of equality, discrimination and harassment
Overall, on a quick skim, this feels more like a thorough and high-quality human resource consultancy than an investigation or management audit. It won't satisfy critics and in any case, the findings of the separate @ChtyCommission probe have yet to drop.
