Wavedash lays off ~30 people with less than 2 weeks notice, no severance. Example number, what, 6? in this past month? of game companies treating workers as disposable. Management knew this was a possibility and didn't prep for severance.

It's hard to imagine circumstances other than massive fraud or the total collapse of civilization so you can't get your money out of the bank in which management isn't aware that the company is on the financial brink--and aware for some time.
Like, if your being able to pay your employees next month is dependent on funding coming through, you're well aware of that. This stuff might be the possibility management dreaded, but it's hardly ever an out-of-nowhere, no one could have imagined surprise.
If you don't have at least two weeks of pay for every employee socked away so that you can give everyone at least one paycheck's worth of severance should the worst happen, you are not running your company competently.
And if you're not transparent with your employees about where the company is financially -- "if we get this funding we're golden; if we don't the most likely outcome is we shut down or go to a skeleton crew" -- you're running your company unethically.
