Dear way too many people in my mentions: Denying the existence or the narrative of either Jews (Israeli or otherwise) or Palestinians is a) dehumanizing b) not even helping your cause. (1/7)
1. Let's start with: Jews today (& yesterday & tomorrow) are Jews. It's an antisemitic canard that we're all descended from Khazars/that some other people are the "real Jews." Stop spreading this lie & don't tolerate it from others, especially those in your political camp (2/7)
2. Palestinians also exist, regardless of whether the English word can directly be transliterated into Arabic & regardless of fact that Palestine has not been a sovereign state. National identity quite often comes before statehood (think Zionism & other nat'l movements). (3/7)
3. Both people have a historic claim to the land. Fighting about whose claim comes first gets you nowhere & arguments about millenia-old history hardly lead to a just solution today. (4/7)
4. Both Palestinian nationalism & Zionism emerged from same 19th c moment that gave us other nationalisms: Latvian, Lithuanian, etc. If you're against all nationalism, you can argue that, but one movement isn't more or less valid than others. (5/7)
5. (Footnote to last point) Reiterating that BOTH people have historical connection to land. Radical move of Zionism was NOT saying Jewish homeland is land of Israel, but rather saying that return could happen through political means, not waiting for Messiah. (6/7)
6. And, of course, Palestinians were already living there. As were many Jews. And now, instead of arguing about the last many thousand years of history, let's talk about how to create a better future for BOTH people, neither of whom is going anywhere. (7/7)
