Actually I think what this thread is revealing is the dichotomy between systemic, de jure disenfranchisement of Black women vs culture bound, coercive, de facto disenfranchisement that is being imposed on White women by their men. Same result, different means.
@JonesMurphy I think the same system of White patriarchy is perpetrating this oppression and disenfranchisement upon all women but they have specialized tactics depending on the group. With Latinas, they’re stealing their children and deporting them so they never get suffrage.
@JonesMurphy For Black women it’s killing our kids and husbands or sending them to jail/prison then imposing a poll tax voter ID and purging us from the rolls. For White women it’s in-home/in-voting booth abuse, harassment and intimidation. They have all their bases covered.
@JonesMurphy I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the women who are having the hardest time flipping the bird to White patriarchy/supremacy/theocracy are the ones who are most likely to love and live with White men. The oppression the rest of us get *starts* in their homes.
@JonesMurphy The mere fact that so many of those women don’t even see it as oppression but instead revel in it is really more of a testament to how pervasive and engrained the problem truly is. If we don’t call it out for what it is, it will continually be normalized.
