I SPEAK TO THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK YOUR VOTES DON'T OR WON'T COUNT - so you decide to vote for the popular candidates or stay away from voting.

Let's think about the ALTERNATIVE and some possibilities.

If you have been voting for the popular candidates or stayed away from voting, I am sure by now you understand the results of both choices haven't met your expectation.

The popular candidates always think they will win irrespective of what they throw at the people. They have the money so they can spend their way through the system.

So when they win, they believe their money got them there. The people do not matter anymore.

We have seen this over and over again. But what's the alternative?

Sometimes, YOU DON'T VOTE TO WIN AN ELECTION. YOU CAN VOTE TO MAKE A STATEMENT. A statement that: WE WILL NOT BOW to their system even if we don't win.

Now imagine if 10 of us say we 'won't bow', and another 100 say the same, before you know it, we will get enough votes to show up on the radar.

Little by little we will bring some awareness.

In 2015 General Election, a woman showed up on the radar, Prof @oluremisonaiya...before then it was Madam Sarah Nnadzwa Jibril, a psychologist. They both stood tall amidst doubters.

In 2019, there will be more women...votes are beginning to count, from a gender perspective.

One of the easiest ways to kill a frog is to gradually boil cold water the frog is in. The frog at first won't notice a change in temperature and in just a little while, it will be too late to get out of the water.

Imagine, if in the first few minutes after the change in temperature was set in motion, the frog was still smiling in the water, and the temperature was turned off? That's just a waste of plan.

But in a short time, the Frog got the signal, the game has changed.

We need to gradually refuse to go with the popular but incompetent and corruption options our political landscape often throws up to lead us.

We can reject them by not voting for them. Even though they may still win, but it will register with them that "WE WILL NOT BOW TO THEM".

If we truly want a change and agree that the current system will not deliver that change, what then do we do?

We sure can't fold our arms.

We must put our hearts, hands, and purse behind the alternatives (with track records) that may attempt the change.

If you vote for one of the Alternatives, your vote may not count at the end of 2019 Elections, but it would have made some statements.

1. That you have options
2. That you will not bow to money or popularity
3. That you can vote your conscience
4. That you reject the status quo.

5. The popular politicians will know that the people have options.
6. Encourage others who want to vote the alternatives.
7. Encourage others who want to stand for election.

All of these contributes to strengthening the system and hopefully achieve for us a better democracy.

So, your votes may not count now, but let it make a statement to the inefficient and poor system of governance we have today.

And if we are many who fall in the category of looking for the alternatives, soon we may be able to garner enough to cause the needed upset.

Change is not a sprint.
Change is not fast food.
In changing, your votes may not count, initially.
But if we persist, it will count for us at the end.
And if it doesn't appear quickly, it will count for our children, and their children, and their children's children.
