They should get a bot to write these fairy tales.

After 65 years, poor Thomas is released from the attributes that brought him a brilliant career in the inner power circles of Washington: his male status.

"a story of suffering, struggle, loss and love"

Oh wonder, exclaims the author, the newly hatched 65-year old "she" has received nothing but support from the conservative establishment.

Oh yawn, thinks the reader, the powerful conservative brotherhood knows it is their birthright to get what they demand, including womanhood.
Now the romantic highlight: "Giselle and Beth shared a love of national security, wine, gender fluidity and BDSM"

Don't you agree Giselle's journey to authenticity is so marvelous they should make a movie out of it. Well they are. I wonder who's paying for it.
So Thomas the conservative security think tanker was a cross-dresser who used to go to BDSM joints. Yawn, thinks the reader, who hasn't read 50 shades of gray, but has absorbed enough of it through the zeitgeist to know that this is mainstream titillation, where's the story?
The genre now requires family drama, a hero's resolve, and the sentence "the alternative of continuing to hide her true identity was unsustainable".

65 years of lies, you understand. Who our hero was lying to, and how, is not further elucidated. This is immaterial to the story.
In this moral tale, the narrator must now explain that the transformation of men into women by means of the Spell of the Magic Dress is a similar kind of thing as homosexuality, and the battles are the same. This is important.
Then society evolved to believe in the eternal feminine essence which could be summoned into a male body by donning the Magic Dress & applying the Magic Lipstick & intoning three times: I am a woman. I am a woman. I am a woman.

And lo! he was woman.

The End.
FOOTNOTE:

The WaPo article ever so genteelly calls Thomas "Giselle", as I suppose he wishes to be called now in fine society, bringing to mind dainty images of ballerinas.

However, his pseudonym in the film is "Jizelle La Creme", just *cough* somewhat more um.. lowbrow?
