Here's a thread about my reading of the Turkish authorities changing their story or at least heavily tweaking it (because they did):
(Note: I've been immersed in this story for two weeks, and very intensely over the past few days. I've been reading reports, speaking to sources, and verifying & corroborating information. But I warn that what I present here is my current *impressions*, not facts).
I've tweeted a rushed thread before that the Turks have changed the story. Find it here:
The leaks during the first week said he was interrogated, beaten & tortured; killed after 2 hours then his body dismembered. Also that incriminating video exists, taken by the killers to prove their job was done.
Later leaks said the recordings were taken via Apple watch, by Jamal himself. It was widely speculated at the time that this part was concocted by the Turks to avoid mentioning that/how they spied on the consulate. Tech people also said Apple watches can't do that.
Now, the story is: Audio recordings (no mention of video); no interrogation (paralyzed by injection, tortured and executed); dismembered while still alive. Plus some disgusting details such how they were listening to music etc.
Note: The Turks are still not walking back the Apple watch story, but they haven't really pushed that story again since.
First, take note of what the Turks are doing. Instead of giving zero info, they're giving too much info (multiple leaks, stories, and theories), wearing out reporters and creating a cloud of smoke. Very frustrating.
Getting back to the two stories (then vs now). Several sources have said (and continue to say) the video exists. Here's indication that a Western official has confirmed it exists?
But additionally, note how Trump speaks here. If you know Trump-lingo, this is basically a non-confirmation confirmation.
As for me, sources have told me (and continued to say) the video exists, and that only two sides have it. The Turks and the Saudis (not the Americans).
