Yesterday, I finished teaching an experimental, 7-week graduate-level class at @ITP_NYU called "Hello, Computer: Unconventional Uses of Voice Technology". The class was mostly technical (lots of Node!), but I thought I'd share some of the readings/listenings we discussed:
- The Difference by @qntm : qntm.org/difference
- Helpful Mom Voices by @reasonablysnd: reasonablysound.com/2018/02/27/hel…
- WOOOORRRRK! by @timgarbos timgarbos.itch.io/woooorrrrk (we played this together which was GREAT for making yr students scream in class)
- The next video-game controller is your voice by @chrisiptw: engadget.com/2017/06/23/voi…
- Chicken Scream by Perfect Tap Games: itunes.apple.com/us/app/chicken…
- various voice controlled games on @itchio: itch.io/games/input-vo…
- Sandra by @Gimletmedia: gimletmedia.com/sandra
- Upending the Uncanny Valley by @hansonrobotics: aaai.org/Papers/Worksho…
- The Future We Wanted by @leighalexander: medium.com/@leighalexande…
- Anatomy of an AI System by @katecrawford & @TheCreaturesLab: anatomyof.ai

The students blew me away with their subversive and deeply weird and extremely funny final projects!
It was a big privilege to get to teach people some of this weird stuff I've been learning myself over the last year, I had a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing more creative voice stuff in the world.

Also I decided to be very Extra and bring a cake to the last day
