This is important and underappreciated. One of many reasons TV is a terrible way to get your information is that “being good on TV” is a specialized skill unrelated to domain expertise.
Actually, it’s worse than that. Domain expertise is a liability for most TV formats. Typically TV needs someone who can be brief, pithy, and in many cases someone who provides clear clash with an opposing guest. Deep knowledge of a subject tends to make you worse at those things.
And I haven’t done a poll, but I suspect a lot of domain experts don’t particularly *like* doing TV for that reason.

Had the same thought: a face-saving way to surrender in a game of shutdown chicken that’s not going as he hoped. Concede the funding fight on the pretense he can just do it by executive fiat, then either fume in mock shock & horror when it turns out he can’t, OR...
...scrounge some pittance from unallocated funds, and pretend that the wall got built, as he already does half the time anyway.
Which shouldn’t be read as understating what a gross, impeachable abuse the attempt would be.

There’s a very weird argument here. McCarthy claims a special counsel was unnecessary b/c there was no reason to think career DOJ officials wouldn’t be capable of supervising the investigation adequately. He brings up the obvious counter: Trump keeps brazenly trying to interfere!
The response to THIS is to recite the claim that a president’s exercise of his powers can never constitute the crime of obstruction. But even if we pretend that’s true, it’s not really responsive.
A president nakedly trying to pressure his subordinates to squelch or whitewash investigation that might implicate himself or his allies OBVIOUSLY calls into question the ability of career staff to carry it out, whether or not the president’s corrupt influence is criminal.

Having polished off the last of Ruiz Zafon’s “Cemetery of Forgotten Books” tetralogy, I decided to reread the first, “Shadow of the Wind,” in Spanish. Lucia Graves is a brilliant translator, but my god is the original prose miles better. And I loved it in English.
Among other things, the first line of the first book is a naked Marquez riff that I somehow missed reading it in English.
Actually the middle two books would probably benefit most. The first sold itself on plot when I thought the prose was workmanlike. The 2nd & 3rd didn’t really, and would be different animals if they’re this well written.

I actually have his book on the desk behind me. Much like Machiavelli's The Prince, it's a manual on how to be a complete and utter bastard (and win). Many of the chapters point to why Leave won, others to why Remain lost. Based on its content, #FBPE need to get its hands dirty.
The article is very different, and it's Leavers that are the narcissists - they hold a belief in something and won't accept being called up on it, deny any facts they're shown as fake news and propaganda, while never questioning their own sources.
I have #FBPE in my bio, and it's because I value Freedom of Movement. I have benefited from it, as have my friends and family. I want to keep it, I want my fellow UK citizens to keep it, and I want EU residents in the UK to keep it too.

I’ve been glad to see so much public discussion of #NCA4 over the last several days, with #ClimateFriday paralleling Black Friday. Since “Cyber Tuesday” is apparently now a thing, I’d like to declare today #CarbonTuesday. (THREAD 1 see part 2 next)
When the #NCA4 report was quietly released on Friday, it received MUCH more press than some of us expected. I’ve seen far less coverage about the closely related #SOCCR2 carbon budget report, also released on Friday and important! carbon2018.globalchange.gov
I’ll highlight some #SOCCR2 findings from chapters I worked on and note some links between it and #NCA4. Would love to see colleagues from @NACP_Carbon join in to highlight interesting and important findings from your areas of research and expertise!

1/ Because executive privilege only arises in—that is, can only be raised in—unusual circumstances, it hasn't often been litigated in the courts and doesn't even have a firm definition in case law. Usually, the three branches of government find ways to avoid use of the privilege.
2/ The privilege attaches to the executive branch of government, not the judicial or legislative branches. It becomes relevant when Congress wants information from the executive branch or a subpoena has been issued by a judge to get certain information from the executive branch.

Prince Bin Talal is also the man who financed the Saudi dry run of 9/11 and the man who logistically & financially orchestrated LV Massacre
It also should not be seen as coincidence that Bin Talal and others were arrested in the Saudi purge the same week Tony Podesta stepped down
