Protect Democracy, with @BrennanCenter, is continuing our legal fight against the Administration's voter suppression efforts. Here's the latest:
Along with many allies, we worked to force President Trump to disband his misguided "voter fraud" commission earlier this year. washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-tu…
The commission was founded on a lie about illegal voting and sought sensitive data about millions of Americans. After a swarm of litigation ensued, it folded. bit.ly/2EOU8qT
But the fight against voter suppression wasn't over. After the commission dissolved, Trump announced he wanted DHS to "determine next" steps, and Kobach said to "pass the ball" to DHS to "move faster." bit.ly/2EOU8qT
Troublingly, DHS may have taken up the commission's mantle. This summer, it issued sweeping subpoenas demanding that North Carolina provide eight years of voter registration information. bit.ly/2EOU8qT
The public deserves to know what else DHS is doing to suppress the vote, so Protect Democracy and the Brennan Center have been litigating to get records from DHS, and other federal agencies. bit.ly/2EOU8qT
When DHS said it would take two-and-a-half years to turn over its records, we filed a motion asking the court to instead impose a three month deadline on DHS. bit.ly/2EOU8qT
We're also asking the court to make sure DHS isn't hiding behind private email accounts to block official conduct from view. bit.ly/2EOU8qT
We'll continue to investigate the Administration's activities by demanding transparency in our legal case. /end bit.ly/2EOU8qT
