Or you could have looked at section 36 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 which makes clear that the Attorney General has no jurisdiction over a sentence passed in the magistrates’ court.
You could also have looked at the Sentencing Guidelines to get an impression of how “absurd” this sentence was in the context of offences of this type: sentencingcouncil.org.uk/wp-content/upl…
Or, you could, to assuage your outrage and quell your confusion, have read a news report of the judge’s sentencing remarks, in which he took the time to explain why the sentence was being suspended.
I dunno, it just strikes me that if something outrages you enough to write to the Attorney General, if a court decision strikes you as “absurd”, that you might do a bit of research into what happened and why before firing up your biro. But maybe it’s just me.
I’m not denying the seriousness of the offences. I’m not even saying that the length of the custodial term is right (it strikes me as quite lenient given the reported facts). But getting angry because someone isn’t immediately imprisoned requires a working knowledge of the facts.
