NBC’s Sunday Night Football chose to run one of the president’s racist ads just now.
Steve Burke should say why NBC made this choice.
NBC STATEMENT, June 30, 2015:

“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.” time.com/3940305/nbc-do…
Is the above statement no longer your position, @NBCUniversal?
“NBC did not immediately return an email seeking comment.” nytimes.com/2018/11/05/us/…
“The network did not respond to HuffPost’s multiple requests for comment.” huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-ra…
NBC says in a statement issued the day before Election Day that it will stop airing the racist ad as soon as it can.
NBC in 2015 pointedly cut business ties with Trump over his derogatory remarks about immigrants, specifically his campaign announcement speech. This ad, from his campaign, is obviously incredibly derogatory about immigrants. Who decided to change course and why?
And why is NBC’s statement today, citing “the insensitive nature of the ad,” so much less clear than their statement in 2015? Why doesn’t it reaffirm the “cornerstone” of the network’s values, per the 2015 statement, “respect and dignity for all people”?
The ad already ran in the third quarter of Sunday Night Football, almost certainly their most watched preelection broadcast. NBC can’t unring that bell, but they can tell us if they’ve decided to abandon the values they announced in 2015 and why.
