Today’s work offsite ended at 3 to give us time to vote. Mid-afternoon at my polling place meant parents brought their school-age kids along! One dad showing his tween daughter how to fill out the ballot. A younger girl helping her mom by whisper-reading her notes.💖
In two years I’ll bring my 15-year-old (!!) daughter. Assuming of course that she’ll have anything to do with me at that point😅

I’m feeling a lot better now. It’s funny how grief works. Six years on, you’d think it would be getting easier, but this December was WAY harder than the last few years. I wasn’t prepared.
Anyway I’m back at work today after what feels like a lifetime of break (but was actually just 2 weeks).

Kinda looking forward to it. Hoping I remember my password😬

After two days of dealing with them in my replies, my overwhelming impression is that there are significantly fewer gamergaters than there were a few years ago, but the things they say have not gotten any smarter.
A typical example - unusually colorful metaphors, stronger than average spelling & grammar for this set...but equivalent in content to “ur soooo dumb hurrr hurrrr”

Never any substance. A screenshot of a tweet reply to me from @AmericanMinear that says, “That’s because you’re a moron with the observational skills of a cinder block at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.”
I suppose “never” isn’t quite true. Sometimes, one of them trots out a tired argument that is just as untrue and/or irrelevant now as it was 4 years ago when it was first proffered. Here are some examples:

The competences of the EU are defined by treaty. They tend to be issues that extend beyond national borders.

1/ I think today is a good day to follow the advice of @KevinMKruse and talk about some of the work that I’ve been doing here in Oxford, MS. First of all, I’m a part of the University of Mississippi Slavery Research Group.
2/ As a part of that group, we have developed an outreach program to the local African American community to help foster dialogue and engagement between the university and the community. We’re just getting started, but we took a big step Saturday.
3/ We planned a trip to Montgomery to visit the @eji_org memorial and museum. This fell right in line with a major event in the community as just a week prior Oxford held an unveiling for a marker honoring the last lynching victim in Lafayette County.

Ignore the polls and get out there and #Vote on November 6th. Relying on polling is a relic of a time gone by.
I’m not saying looking at @FiveThirtyEight’s model and charts and stuff isn’t cool, because it is and provides some insight. But no matter what the numbers say, it’s most certainly NEVER an excuse to not #Vote because you feel your peeps are a “lock”
Need nothing further than to point to 2016. Which by the way, @FiveThirtyEight didn’t really have wrong, but the “selected not elected” mindset existed before 2016. Why else would over 100 million people choose NOT to participate in their civic duty to choose their leaders.
