*Sigh*

It would be nice if people understood basic civics before tweeting. Only 35 Senate seats were up for election this year. Dems controlled 26 of them, thus why they have far more votes.

Also, those seats are won in individuals states, not by national totals.
Also an important point of why that tally doesn't make sense. Almost all the Senate votes in CA added to the Dem tally:
Apparently there is an epidemic of ignorance on this topic.
If you struggle at math: If R’s gain 3 senate seats, that means Dems won 23/35 Senate seats up (previously controlled 26). + CA had only 2 Dems running so all the votes for Senate basically went toward the Dem tally.

(Ignoring that national total is irrelevant 4 Senate anyways)
NBC reporter @kendilanian not only getting basic civics and math wrong, but adding an ignorant barb against our system of government and half the country.
To simplify 4 those blue checks still too dumb to get it: 1) Senators are elected by popular vote in each state, not nationally. 2) Even using your premise, Dems won ~23/35 seats up last night & CA was a race between 2 D’a so obviously they have big lead w national popular vote.
