I’d like to invite someone from the NRA to Follow me around for a week while I do my shift as an ER/Trauma MD. I’d like to have them go into that “dreaded room” with me,The room where we tell a parent that we did all we could for their child, but we could not save their lives.
I’d like them to stand there during that awful silence, and then watch as it hits them- to hear of the blood curdling scream from a parent. A mother throw themselves on the ground, a father curl into a ball and sob, noises you never knew existed. A parent grab onto our legs and
Beg for us to try again. To listen to them barter with us, then barter with God. To Wait with them as the nurses do their best to make that precious loved one look “presentable” So that mom & dad can hold their child one last time. To stand there silently, with
Tears running down our eyes, while trying to keep it together for the parents. To listen to the wail of a mom when it’s time to leave the room. To sometimes have to physically remove the parent away from the child So the police can start investigating. The NRA is so big and bad
I want one of them to sit with me When I have to deliver that news. To watch the code team become physically exhausted from trying to revive them. To watch us covered in their blood- from head to toe and Break down ourselves. And then to walk out of the room, and do it all again.
To call time of death for a victim of a Horrific act of violence, that can be decreased by Implementing common sense gun laws. Anyone involved in a situation like this, never forgets it. I am sure I speak for my fellow colleagues when I say come work a week with us. I dare you.
@NRA this is “my lane”. I didn’t wanna be in this lane, but because of a lack of common sense gun reform – I’m in this lane a lot more than I ever wanted to be.
