Hi! My name is Jessamyn, I am a scientist and comedian and a lot of other things too, and very excited to be tweeting here for #ScienceWeek!
If you love science, there will be LOTS of science from me this week. But also gonna talk about comedy, arts/science, teaching, culture, and maybe some cat pics too.
A bit about me: I'm not Irish but I've been living in Ireland for the last 7 years: 5 in Dublin and the last 2 in Galway. I moved here after grad school and I loooove it.
I grew up in the US, in a pretty unusual town: Los Alamos, New Mexico. Los Alamos is famous for being the birthplace of the atomic bomb, which was built in secret during World War II.
Los Alamos isn't a secret any more, but now it's the site of a national lab, so the whole town is full of scientists. My parents moved there when I was little to work at the lab.
I didn't realize until I was older how unusual it is to grow up surrounded by scientists! I always loved how science helps us understand the world, but I also loved writing, music, dance, sports...
So I studied physics/math but minored in English, kept active in arts and other things! And moved to California and Pennsylvania before eventually coming to Ireland in 2011.
