1/ If people who drive $TSLA's actually cared about the environment, they wouldn't care about 0-60 times. They'd drive a Volt. And then they'd get to work on carbon capture and storage at the coal plants that are producing the electricity used to power their cars.
2/ Driving an EV today only shifts the pollution from a distributed network of transportation devices to a centralized power generation facility. Absent pollution control at that facility, you've literally done nothing to improve the environment. $TSLA
3/ The Volt itself is an engineering marvel. It captures 90+ percent of the driving needs of most commuters in EV mode, with zero range anxiety or any other material sacrifice on the part of the consumer. $TSLA
4/ The $TSLA bulls do make a compelling point: the Volt (and other similar $TSLA competitors) are in fact compliance cars from the traditional auto OEMs. You will have difficulty buying them in non-ZEV states. I know. I've tried. I genuinely wish it wasn't so. But it is.
5/ The $TSLA bears will say that's because EVs lose money, and absent government intervention there wouldn't be any EVs on the road today. I understand the free market perspective and I am mostly inclined to support it. However...
6/ It is undeniable that the true environmental costs of unfettered capitalism is rarely captured in the short term 'price' of a good. There's a role for thoughtful regulatory intervention in the market. Unfortunately, most regulation isn't thoughtful, it is political. $TSLA
7/ If I were king, the engineering architecture of the Volt would proliferate, the carbon intensity of electricity generation would continue to decline, and substantive pollution controls would be mandated at the most carbon intensive electricity generation plants. $TSLA
8/ But I'm not king. I'm a schmuck who tweets about $TSLA. Trade carefully.
