We have just published our Review of Energy Policy: 2018!
Check out the thread below for a summary of all our recommendations.
Read the review in full here: bit.ly/2BsqDqf
On #Transport: The target for phasing our conventionally fuelled vehicles is inadequate. The @transportgovuk ‘Road to Zero’ (‘ICE ban 2040’) may neither hit the target nor make the early gains needed for a 1.5°C trajectory. @_chris_brand_ @jillian_anable
On #electricity: policy should build on Electricity Market Reform that has worked well & adapt in the light of technology/cost changes. Change in ‘black start’ incentives & other ancillary services are needed to ensure the system remains resilient @energyukcomms @ngcontrolroom
On #heat: we repeat our call for a heat & #energyefficiency White Paper. The #industrialstrategy mission on #building energy should be extended to existing buildings. Urgent large-scale viability trials of #decarbonisation using #hydrogen is needed @heatandthecity @heatpolicyrich
On #gas: A dashboard of indicators is needed to monitor gas security during the #energytransition. The UK still lacks a clear #roadmap for the future role of #NaturalGas. @DrIAGWilson @WarwickBSchool @SGI_London
On #markets: The @beisgovuk #IndustrialStrategy needs to strongly link to market creation policies for low-carbon technologies. Carbon capture and storage is in particular need of such policies to progress. #CCS #CCUS @UKCCSRC @The_CCSA @ScotCCS
On a #JustTransition: To ensure support for the #energytransition, there needs to be more focus on equity and justice. The UK Government should consider setting up a something similar to @scotgov Just Transitions Commission. @DrCDemski @watsonjim2
On #Brexit: Continued vigilance is required to mitigate negative impacts of Brexit, particularly those that could affect integration with European #energymarkets #EnergyUnion @DExEUgov
On #FuelPoverty: A better, more targeted approach to the energy needs of low-income households is required. #energyefficiency investment for these households should be funded via general taxation. @carolyn_snell @theADEuk @uk_ace @CABEErrington @CAenergypolicy
