Dear Kenya. Listen, exam cheating has never been the key problem with our education system... A thread...
Consider the #KCSE pass rates before and after the #Matiang'i rules in 2016 @DrCarrieM @kenyanpundit

2012 - 28% |2013 -27% | 2014 - 30% | 2015 - 31% | 2016 - 15% | 2017 - 11.5%|
A normal pass rate for a normally distributed population should be 60%. Even with max cheating, only 30% of students passed the K.C.S.E on average (someone with access to data please share the pass rate since 1984)...
Cheating is an insignificant issue here. The real problem, the one our govt. is deflecting using the Matiang'i rules is the 85% failure rate...
The KCSE is a basic exam on the very basic knowledge and skills a kenyan citizen needs to be a productive member of our society. This pass rate says a high MAJORITY of Kenyans have less than normal intelligence.
Instead of clapping about how many police officers and guns safaguard the #KCSE from cheats, we should demand an explanation from Kenya's chief educator: the government...
How can 85% plus of the children it is supposed to educate fail a basic exam? #KOT
85% of Kenyan students are not lazy, undetermined, thick in the head e.t.c. (insert here the common explanations for exam failure)
85% of #Kenyanstudents are simply not adequately taught. Most of them would pass if they were just taught. This is the responsibility of the government
#Matiangi exams are just a distraction
And just so we are clear, when I say pass rate, I mean candidates who have scored C+ and above. In the 2017 KCSE, only 11.5% of candidates scored C+ and above.
