The Brits are not used to witnesses lying to MPs, but that’s what Alexander Nix of Cambridge Analytica, Arron Banks & Andy Wigmore of LeaveEU, and spokespeople for Facebook have all done. They have misled, deceived, and misrepresented to the @CommonsCMS committee.

USA needs a GDPR. Europe is decades ahead of us and the next Congress needs to catch up. The FTC has clearly failed to protect America’s personal data. Our approach to privacy was a mistake. Time to admit it. Time to get serious.
When we discovered that US voter data was processed by Cambridge Analytica in the UK we realized we could complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. There is no such equivalent in the US. What if Cambridge Analytica hadn’t exported our data to UK?
My personal highlight of 2018: Realizing the work of 2017 had paid off. The world’s first criminal prosecution of Cambridge Analytica is because a simple filing with the UK ICO. Turns out, my Independence Day. Essentially, why is a British company interfering with my elections?

#Zuckerberg due to appear before the Senate Committee in a couple of hours - so here’s a short thread about what (I think) matters.
Obviously there will be the usual bluster & politicking - with committee members desperate to show they’re representing public concern about data etc. You can count a lot of that as background music.

The legal memo warned #CambridgeAnalytica to carefully hide behind a firewall any work it did in a single state/election for a particular candidate &for super-PACs supporting the campaign.
