This semester, i've been TAing an Election Data Science class at @UF taught by @ElectProject. Today is the first part of final project presentations!! I'll update this thread with the cool stuff done by @UFPoliSci students
First we have "Voter Registration Rates: Identifying Where People Are Not Registered and Why", a really cool piece on North Carolina data. Nathan models VEP using a random walk, and explores voter reg statistics using #rstats. Check it out at nmorse.info/projects/voter…
Next we have "Youth Voter Disillusionment — Fact or Fiction" which is done in #rstats by @annabaringer. Another interesting analysis of the North Carolina voter file, but this one focused on deadwood in registrations by racial group. Check it out at medium.com/@annabaringer/…
For the first presentation, Nathan's twitter handle is @nathanamorse and his whole portfolio is at nmorse.info, really cool stuff on there!
Next we have a really great piece by @WilliamZelin with "Natural Disasters and Election Administration: Did Hurricane Matthew Affect Voter Turnout in Georgia?" The GA reg/history file is a disaster and doing a project on it is impressive for someone who started using R this Fall!
That wraps up the first round of presentations, I’ll post more next week!
