Adding genetic genealogy analysis eliminates most or all of these innocent ppl. 1/
@okeefekat @AngryBlackLady @veleda_k @mrsdianek "Close enough" would be usually siblings of the same gender, and those are usually quickly and easily eliminated through other circumstantial factors. "Exonerates" is a loaded term and inaccurate because no one ever charges them with anything. 2/

The only time this could be a mistake would be in the instance of an unknown identical twin, not very likely, and the police would have a lot of background info on the person at this point. 3/
@okeefekat @AngryBlackLady @veleda_k @mrsdianek In order to go to trial there has to be a shed-ton of other evidence. Basically what the gen. genealogy work does is eliminate hundreds of innocent suspects and narrow and focus the investigation. They still have to build a regular case. 4/
@okeefekat @AngryBlackLady @veleda_k @mrsdianek Also, someone at some point up in one of the threads said DNA "sites" and I just want to point out that it was one site, a little known genetic genealogy site that geeky genealogists used to do family history. Ppl voluntarily upload their info there. 5/

@okeefekat @AngryBlackLady @veleda_k @mrsdianek Want to clarify that genetic genealogists, professional and hobbyists, still use this site. Also, when I said "genealogists did the work" I meant genetic genealogists working for the investigation. 7/
@okeefekat @AngryBlackLady @veleda_k @mrsdianek Finally, I want to point out that corrupt regimes wouldn't need to go through the hassle of genetic genealogy to frame someone. Super easy to do without, and currently happens with drug charges all the time by white cops to young black men. End.
