1/ Never forget that Trump is a liar. First and last. America is suffering because of it. The world is suffering because of the accumulated prestige & power of the Office of the President being utilized to propagate self-serving agendas based on lies.
2/ Eventually, the global system of nations will rearrange themselves to minimize the relationship to America. The breakdown of the global system, the consequence of the supremely foolish, but self serving, policy of "America First".
3/ The immediate consequences of letting such a man as Trump into the center of power with essentially no external constraints, not by policy, history, now Congress, and certainly not constitutional principles is that each of these is being slowly & systematically dismantled.
4/ If we let the rot, the cancer, that is Trump and Trumpian anti american intentions and actions metastasize we will come to wonder what happened to the country. It will become unrecognizable. Much like the destruction occurring due to the fires & waters is confusing & beyond
5/ our ability, and willingness, to grasp the magnitude of what has been going on for the last 50years... and now, everything is different. Barely a memory of how things used to be. And for those who have to contend w todays realities, they have no experience or memory of how
6/ it used to be. So it will be if this fellow is allowed to finally eradicate the barriers erected to the abuse of power, and the essential relationship of the State to its Citizens, by the Constitutional founders of the country. America may become only a memory, and later
7/ will join the bookshelf of those nations once great that were brought down by their own banality and venality. We are not there yet. The "fires" that are this difficult period may yet prove to be healing...but only if we finally come to understand the times we are in &
8/ what is happening. A tall order that. Because, except in the most broad of contexts & paradigms, it is to chaotic, too difficult to actually understand what is happening with any accurate precision. So there will always be opportunity for less faithful citizens to make
9/ excuses and self serving justifications. In this it is not unlike the fires: There are so many and so many that are so intense as to defy control, so it is impossible to contend in anything like a rational / logical manner the emotional outrages of those who have a completely
10/ different experience and agenda. Some are speaking their own confusion and uncertainty. And vote for a Trump thinking he a/ actually cares about them and b/ will shake up the established order. A fair and true experience that needs to be engaged & understood.
11/ On the otherhand there are those, more Machiavellian and very much more sinister, who know how to use this confusion to inflame the conversation, who have no intention, nor ability, to understand,much less solve, any of the great #systemic issues of the day.
12/ Back to the beginning then. Trump is a master liar. Authoritarian rulers share this trait as a core competency. It is imperative that we learn what we already know, that Trump is a self serving liar & no public servant. If we get this and act upon it, we may yet be able to
13/ manage to finally get this conflagration under control. Certainly much will be destroyed before that happens, much already has. But we, America, still has a deep reservoir of resilience and a deep vein of principled goodness to our character that is beginning to coalesce.
14/ It does not mean the resistance will win as a matter of certainty. There are incredible forces with a great deal of influence, money and direct control of many of the inner chambers of power. But the opposition to this rising Dark seems to be gathering strength and depth.
15/ I hope we get through this such that some future leader, and/or historian will be able to declare about this time that 'It was their finest hour. That the Gathering Storm was, in the end, met, and defeated.".
16/ I propose that any such repelling of our current Authoritarian wanna-be, and active grifter family along w the fellow travelers is not a given. But it depends at least on this first thing: To recognize the character of the leader.
17/ To recognize the central trait of Trump: Liar.
If we will be willing to understand this, then we will, at least, have the footing from which to actually #resist and understand what to do.
