Before I was saved, reading Michener's Hawaii, missionaries were a main plot point. I was viscerally angry at "those arrogant Christians" who I felt should "leave the natives alone." Missionaries angered & mystified me. 1/
Why people chose to travel to remote places for this 'Jesus' guy was something I could never understand, but it always grabbed my attention. What WAS it about Jesus that made people DO that? I wondered. 2/
As a New Englander, it was the same with the Puritans, leaving England or Holland for the 'mere' reason to worship in liberty was an idea alien to my blackened heart, but it attracted me in a negatively absorbing way, too. 3/
If for nothing else, John Allen Chau's deed has caught the attention of the world, and I know for a fact that many people wonder, as I did, what it is about Jesus that makes one do these things. The name of Jesus, for a little while, is on the world's lips. 4/
