Good evening friends here, it's a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Lagos, Nigeria, it's the first Sunday in the last month of the year, my heart is filled with gratitude to God and my mouth filled with praise.

OBSERVATION AND EXPERIENCE.

Let's follow to dig into this this afternoon.

I won't even try to argue this, I won't try to stake a claim to anything, I will just go on and say what I want to say about the topic.

Quick definition of these two words.
OBSERVATION is a statement about something you have noticed: a comment or remark.
OBSERVATION is the act of careful watching & listening; the activity of paying close attention to someone or something in other to get information

OBSERVATION is also defined as the ACTION or PROCESS of closely observing or monitoring something or someone.

From the foregoing, you will notice that Observation is an ACT, it is what you do. It is what you can do from afar or when you are at close proximity.

Observation is not a character trait, you develop it.

You can decide to pick on anything, anyone or any process and release your observatory powers on it.
Observation is what you do with consciousness.

On the other hand, what is Experience?
EXPERIENCE is the process of doing and seeing things and of having things happen to you.
EXPERIENCE is the skill or knowledge that you get by doing something. It is the length of time that you have spent doing something.

EXPERIENCE is the PARTICIPATION in events as a basis of knowledge.
Some say it is the fact or state of having been affected by or gained knowledge through direct observation or participation.

I like this one;
EXPERIENCE is the PRACTICAL knowledge, skill or practice derived from direct observation of or participation in events or in a particular activity.
It is something PERSONALLY ENCOUNTERED, undergone or lived through.

In the definition of Experience, there are some words specifically used for the description, words such as; Practical, Participation and Personally.
The definition of Experience wouldn't be complete without these words.

Now, this is where I am going, call me old school if you want.
To me, there's still a lot of truth in the old saying, "EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER".
I know a lot of motivational speakers have told U you don't have to experience it, just observe it.

They have told you that you can learn by observing and you can with that avert what others went through.
Yes! You can learn by observation, but you won't learn everything by observation.

The motivational speakers went on to say get mentored... Oh Yes! I have mentors too. In fact, one of my mentors do say, "Your mentors will save you from tormentors".
So I do have them around me too and accessible.

However, your mentors will not absolve you totally from all the 'pains' & 'heartaches' meant for you too, else, you won't be able to make bold statements like "I am speaking out of experience of about 10 years".

If all was done by observation, and all was gotten right, wherein lie the experience?

If you keep observing love, reading and learning about it, all you have is knowledge (information) of love. But when you give love or suffer a heartache as a result of your love, that is when you experience love.

See, some things are learned hands-on.
There are some things you have to encounter personally not what some persons have encountered beforehand and then tell you. It is a practical knowledge and, participation.

You have mentors so as not to get your fingers burnt. However, it is actually to reduce the degree of the burnt because there is no way you won't get your fingers burnt if you must talk from experience.

Observation is a great way of learning smart, it gives you a good leverage, but still isn't the best teacher.

The kind of lessons experience will teach you, observation will not.

Get your head into that thing, know that you're going to get your hands burnt, but learn through it.

Observation is great, but you will still have to experience it yourself.

So let me ask you, between Observation and Experience, which is the best teacher?

As the Old school person that I am, I have learnt over the years that until your teeth cut it you won't know. Until you taste the vinegar, you won't know the sour taste.
Experience is key...
