I represented this young man, who died while being pursued by police.

To @NYPost he is a "thief," but I know he was brave, smart & immensely likeable.

It's peak hypocrisy to object to criticism of George Bush b/c he just died, but to be OK w/ this.

This happened in April 2017. I think of my client often & I was just reminded of this article b/c of the Bush coverage. At the time, I wrote a letter to the editor b/c I wanted people to know who my client really was - a remarkable human being - but @nypost did not run it.
I hate everything about this article. It gets me so upset reading it. Not just that they think the sum total of who he is is a "thief." Fled from police, when they chased him onto the subway tracks. For him ALLEGEDLY taking a small amount of $$$ from a newsstand.
I never see serious discussions about whether police should pursue people for minor offenses, whether by car or on foot. A teenage boy died for allegedly stealing a small amount of cash. Maybe the focus of this article should be why police policies permit that.
And why was my teenage client so scared of the police & being arrested & being in jail that he took the risk of jumping onto subway tracks.
Anyway I apologize - I am deviating from the point of my initial tweet. I just find this article so so enraging. I hope reading it now, you might also. Thank you for listening,
