NY TV debut 12/3/48 at 8 on WATV. Dorothy Libaire, jilted fiancee Skeets Gallagher try to clear new flame David Manners of murder. Poverty Row romance opened in 1935 at the Criterion in Times Square on double bill with IN OLD SANTA FE with Ken Maynard.
NY TV debut 12/3/48 at 8 pm on WPIX. Rex Harrison gets fourth billing as an obituary writer crushing on newspaper secretary Miriam Hopkins in MEN ARE NOT GODS (1936), rare directorial effort by celebrated screenwriter Walter Reisch. One of 24 in first London Films TV package.
12/3/53 at 10:30 pm on WATV. Nolan plays tough criminal lawyer with a soft spot for college chum Middleton. One the better Republics flooding TV at the time, Lubin's pre-noir opened at Times Square's Criterion in 1940.
12/3/58: Both films touted by WCBS in NY Times ad were repeats, and neither would be broadcast in New York City in color in many years. 128-minute YEARLING, which had been shown full length in late night, was chopping to around 75 minutes for "The Early Show.''
NY TV debut 12/3/63 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm on WOR's "Million Dollar Movie.'' Pity Donen's 1951 musical was among a batch of 1950-51 releases misfiled in the tickler file in MGM's legal department, its 28-year copyright renewal denied because the deadline had passed.
12/3/68 at 8 am on WABC's "Movie of the Day.'' "Neat melodrama, breezily written and acted,'' blurbs @nytimesarts' Howard Thompson of Rosen's new-to-me 1946 Columbia release.
12/3/73. WOR was then programming a five-hour block of feature films every weekday afternoon from 1 to 6. Tourneur's lesser Lewton from 1943 filled an hour between THOSE ENDEARING YOUNG CHARMS (RKO, 1945) and HELL BELOW ZERO (Columbia, 1954).
12/3/78 from 1 to 3 on WOR. Channel 9 had more than an ample supply of potboilers from parent RKO General's enormous library, so why did they lease this 1940 sarong epic from indie producer Edward Small? It had been on TV from 1951 and does not appear to be in the public domain.
12/3/83 from 2 to 5 am on WPIX. Yes, Channel 11 was showing it with commercials. But at least they were offering it in color and all at the same time. US TV debut 12/25/55 and 1/1/56 on ABC's "Famous Film Festival.'' Broadcast in two 90-minute segments in glorious black and white
12/3/88 at 3:30 am on "TNT Overnight.'' Elliot Nugent reportedly assisted director E. Mason Hopper with 1929 comedy he and his dad J.C. adapted from their Broadway play. The Nugents, at left, also acted in the film. Listings incorrectly credit unrelated Eddie Nugent as the star.
12/3/93 at 12:05 am on WABC. Wilbur's 1959 adaptation of Rinehart and Hopwood's 1920 Broadway thriller began its week-long run 6/15/64 on WOR's "Million Dollar Movie.'' Copyright expired in 1987, the year before the 28-year renewal requirement was abolished.
12/3/98 at 8 pm on "TCM Feature Presentation With Robert Osborne.'' Warners reclaimed its Hollywood in Manhattan, which had been leased as a legit venue called the 51st Street Theatre, for gala 1935 premiere of prestige pic. NY TV debut Friday 6/27/58 on WCBS' "The Late Show.''
