Congratulations to President Donald Trump for negotiating a truce with himself in the trade war with China. He got himself to make significant concessions, walking back insane threats he made days before.
He also did this without forcing the Chinese to make any adjustments at all to their trade policies which opens the door to further negotiations in the future should he wish to change strategy and actually negotiate with someone other than himself.
The subtlety of his diplomacy was revealed in the statements issued by both sides which appeared to indicate neither had communicated at all with the other thus enabling both to pretend as though nothing had happened at all. Which, for all intents and purposes, has been the case.
