Our Dallas office received donations of teddy bears from across the country

The St. Ignatius College Prep Kino Teens Club organized “Share A #BearHug” to host a teddy bear drive.

All of these will be given to immigrant families over the holidays.
These incredible students—whose extracurricular club is dedicated to advocating and supporting migrants' rights—sent more than 600 stuffed animals and welcome letters to our San Antonio and Dallas offices.

OUT TODAY: Our video on LGBTQ+ migrants who made a hellish trek to seek asylum.

They were refused food, transport, services, etc on the caravan up. Water was thrown in their faces. They were discriminated against widely.

They banded together for protection. This is their story.
The stories are harrowing.

Lady, a Honduran trans woman, said she & her partner were often threatened. "We thought it was just a joke. Until they killed him."

She left, traveling 2.5K+ miles to Tijuana.

"You don't leave your country b/c you want to, they force you to go."
She & 80+ others traveled to Tijuana w/our help & those of other orgs.

They have strong asylum cases—burned arms from gangs, partners killed, coercion, extortion—but they needed lawyers to prove it.

And they needed housing, food, security, etc. They were & are vulnerable in TJ.

They were separated, held at five detention centers, & only reunited two months later.

A 27 y/o woman, sexually assaulted for years in Guatemala, crossed in 2007 seeking asylum.

She speaks Jacaltec & didn't understand forms judges made her sign—common for indigenous speakers.

She was deported in 2017 to the town where her assailants live. buzzfeednews.com/amphtml/adolfo…
Her case is egregious: She was a minor when she crossed in 2007 &, not understanding the language, signed her own deportation order.

She had no idea what she'd done. She stayed another 10 years, gave birth to two US citizen daughters.

She was arrested in front of their eyes.
She crossed again in 2018 & is waiting for emergency hearings to stop her deportation.

She's faced attempted rape, sexual assault, threats, & other abuse in her hometown—she cannot be forced back.

Her daughters are here, her life is here—she cannot be forced back.

I wanted to share some of the interesting statistical #Bears nuggets that were shared with us from our friends over at @IE_NFL.

This is going to be a lengthy thread.

1) They are 12-3 when allowing less than 5 yards per rush this season. That's tied for 2nd best in the NFL.

2) According to @IE_NFL the #Bears have averaged 47.8 Penalty Yards per Game this season which is 5th best in #NFL.

3) The Bears are also 5th in the league by running the ball on 44.9% of plays in 2018.
4) I've talked about the good #Bears pass protection all year, and @IE_NFL has them allowing a QB Hit on just 6.1% of dropbacks this season, which is 3rd best in #NFL.

All their nuggets weren't in Chicago's favor, so some bad ones will be sprinkled in. The thread continues ⬇️

Second dates.. what subjects do you explore?. I think it's a good time to bring up the subject of #PrEP. 1. It lets the person know that I care about sexual health. 2. If they say something like, "#PrEP is for sluts" (I've heard that) I'll ask them why they believe that.
Imagine if you were talking to someone and you mentioned that you are taking the contraceptive pill and their response was, "the pill is for people that don't want to use condoms and be promiscuous" - Sometimes people make judgements about your moral character because of a pill.

I have access to Truvada — #PrEP, a pill that dramatically reduces the risk of HIV transmission — through my health insurance, and I am grateful to have that, and the regular STI testing that my health care provider does as part of it, available to me.
Because Truvada is such an expensive drug, though, many do not have access to it. Still others lack health care providers with the knowledge or supportive practice to recommend it. (Read more about the costs and an effort to fight them: slate.com/human-interest…)
I’m talking about my use of PrEP to encourage openness about sexual health — and also to encourage people to learn about PrEP if you’re a sexually active queer person or otherwise at heightened risk for HIV. (This education is needed; read this: buzzfeed.com/dominicholden/…)

I wanted to wait a bit for things to settle down before assessing what the #Bears accomplished over the past three days from the draft to undrafted free agency.

Here we go.
1. I love how Ryan Pace altered his approach to the early rounds. He shifted to targeting more proven players who were highly productive and experienced in college. #Bears.
2. Roquan Smith is a stud. He was my favorite defensive prospect and I knew he'd make such a good fit for the #Bears. Vic Fangio is a former linebackers coach who's overseen Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis. His push for Smith should be considered gospel. #Bears
