I have access to Truvada — #PrEP, a pill that dramatically reduces the risk of HIV transmission — through my health insurance, and I am grateful to have that, and the regular STI testing that my health care provider does as part of it, available to me.
Because Truvada is such an expensive drug, though, many do not have access to it. Still others lack health care providers with the knowledge or supportive practice to recommend it. (Read more about the costs and an effort to fight them:…)
I’m talking about my use of PrEP to encourage openness about sexual health — and also to encourage people to learn about PrEP if you’re a sexually active queer person or otherwise at heightened risk for HIV. (This education is needed; read this:…)
