This fits the model of previous incidents with the nexus of criminal-terror perpetrators who are always known to security services but nevertheless have easy access to ostensibly illegal firearms and weapons
Despite being monitored and even being involved in serious violent crimes with illegal weapons the perpetrators never seem to receive anything but short sentences in the past and continue on their trajectory toward more serious incidents
The response, besides posting more soldiers everywhere, tends to be this “let’s move on” mentality, not learning from past experience or bothering to prosecute these perpetrators beforehand for acquiring arsenals of weapons
How is it that someone who supposedly fought twice with security services is not only free but is able to acquire firearms and grenades? How is that possible? How come illegal possession of weapons never results in more than a slap on the wrist
The problem is not that security services don’t deal well with terror, they show that they can track and identify extremist suspects but many incidents show that there is a gap in prosecuting people for serious crimes such as acquiring banned weapons and munitions
Gun laws don’t work unless you hand down actual sentences for possession of illegal weapons and also prosecute those involved in the trade of arms and grenades
