Great thread but the right also believes in the heroic myth of Thatcher. If "wets" and "experts" question Brexit, they questioned monetarism too, and Maggie was vindicated. If Brexit causes suffering, so did Thatcher, but history "proved" her right,
Needless to add monetarism was a huge mistake and parts of Britain have not got over the crisis of 70s and 80s. My point is the right still tells itself a stirring story of a determined leader ignoring the cowards around her and triumphing against the odds.
So British history repeats itself. The first time as tragedy. And the second time as tragedy too.
