Coming to Alberta after living in 3 other provinces, I have to say, nowhere else have I encountered the kind of immature, rage-filled, knee jerk reactions to just about everything that I see almost every day here. #ableg #ABpoli
Seriously, what makes Albertans feel so threatened and disenfranchised? People everywhere have troubles. Your problems aren't special. Your sense of entitlement sets you apart, though.
Is it years and years of having a booming economy? Being able to buy new vehicles every few years, vacations in the sun, loads of toys, that makes you freak out when you have to live like other folks?
You know, you could have set some aside during the good times. You didn't have to blow it all. Personally or provincially. What did all those decades of Conservative government do with all the wealth? It wasn't new hospitals, or creating a rainy day fund...
Alberta parents pay outrageous school fees. Unlike any other province. There used to be health premiums. You pay more for car insurance than provinces with public insurance. Where did all that royalty money go?
Even with Alberta "struggling" with low oil prices, the province still has one of the highest average incomes in the country. Albertans who are angry, maybe should have to go and live in another province for a year or two and see what it's like.
A couple of years trying to earn a living in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Quebec, pretty well anywhere but Alberta, might adjust some attitudes.
I have lived here in Alberta for more than 10 years now. I have friends, wonderful people, in this province. But the general zeitgeist of perpetual outrage, and the incessant whining, really does make Alberta look, to the rest of the country, like a spoiled child. Just saying...
