This. It also shows why we need to abolish the 60-vote threshold on day one if/when we take back the Senate. We won’t have anywhere close to 60 votes soon (or ever), McConnell will obstruct & workarounds like reconciliation leave legislation super vulnerable to legal challenges.
The 60-vote threshold is not an original feature of the Senate. The Founders created the Senate as a majority-rule body. They'd hate what it is now. The modern 60-vote threshold is a mutation of a rule passed in 1917. And it can be undone with a majority.
Legit reservation but not likely in practice. Passing laws is hard, even if the threshold is just a majority! Reversals like what you describe would probably only happen if unified control of all branches switched back and forth from election to election.
