OK, friends, fans, and followers...it's thread time. This is a story about a "lawyer" named @RudyGiuliani, who said “Nobody got killed, nobody got robbed… This was not a big crime” regarding using campaign contributions to keep #Individual1's hookups quiet. /1
Once upon a time, @RudyGiuliani was the mayor of New York. He also had a weekly call-in radio show. A man named James Schillaci called in to complain to #Giuliani that traffic cops were manipulating a traffic signal sensor in the Bronx in order to entrap drivers into tickets. /2
#Giuliani ignored Schillaci's complaint. Schillaci then took video and pics of the cops rolling over the sensor to trigger the red light, and passed it on to NY media, including the @NYDailyNews. /3
The Daily News, unlike @RudyGiuliani, paid attention to Schillaci's complaint, running one of the pics on the front page, with a headline saying "GOTCHA!" /4
Remember above where I quoted @RudyGiuliani as saying funneling presidential campaign contributions to hush up @RealDonaldTrump's extracurricular activities was "not a big crime"? Well, it seems that exposing a police ticket trap WAS a big crime to #Giuliani. /5
The morning after the story ran, two cops showed up to Schillaci's home and arrested him on a traffic warrant from 13 years earlier. That's right, all of a sudden they were in a hurry to find him and haul him in. /6
At arraignment, the judge threw the warrant out immediately because it was too old to enforce. But #Giuliani and his band of petty, vindictive henchmen were just getting started. /7
An NYPD spokeswoman released his past arrest record to the media (which may have violated NY state laws regarding release of such info), and referred to Schillaci as a sex offender, *falsely* stating that he was convicted of sodomy (the case had been dismissed). /8
Then, @RudyGiuliani joined in on the smear job, saying “Mr. Schillaci was posing as an altruistic whistle-blower...Maybe he’s dishonest enough to lie about police officers.” /9
This targeted retaliation caused Schillaci to suffer a nervous breakdown, landing him in the hospital. He eventually sued NYC, winning a $290K settlement. However his life was ruined. /10
The moral of this story? It's "not a big crime" when @RealDonaldTrump, @MichaelCohen, or @RudyGiuliani do it, but if a regular person dares to call them out on their actions, then it's on the level of crimes against humanity. /11
In closing, @RudyGiuliani, you're nothing but a hypocrite and a wannabe mobster. You fit in perfectly with the #TrumpCrimeFamily. /11
Thanks to @nytimes, @salon, @voxdotcom, and @NYDailyNews for the reporting and images on this story (links below). /12
And Thanks to Cat for this find:
"Giuliani sarcastically said that the only thing left to ask the president was about 'several unpaid parking tickets that night, back in 1986, ’87 that haven’t been explained.'”
