My latest piece on Brexit. This time I focus on its corrosive effect on the British constitution.

foreignpolicy.com/2018/12/18/bre…
The strength of the SNP has made it hard for either of the English based parties to win a working majority.
The lack of working majority meant Cameron had to appease what are (more or less affectionately according to taste) called the “swivel-eyed loons”
The referendum created two new political identities, and ambitious political entrepreneurs now compete for their support, depriving compromises like @NickBoles’s Norway+ of oxygen
“Political rewards now go to men and women who promote polarization, not compromise, and because the country is divided into two almost equal halves, neither side can win decisively.”
And finally

“A different American government would make the resolution of conflict in one of its most important allies a major foreign-policy priority...the Trump administration has neither the attention nor inclination nor ability to get involved.”

Now read the whole thing.
