At scene near Family Courts in Dublin where Gardaí responding to reports of man with a gun. All Luas’s not allowed pass through Smithfield
Road closed next to the courts. Gardaí advising people to take different routes
Road also closed at New Church Street. Heavy Garda presence.
Garda have entire place cordoned off. Big gathering of people outside the cordon in the Smithfield square side
Gardaí now saying Defence Forces on the way due to “suspect device” being located.
It is understood at this time a gunman was holding a judge hostage in the building. @thejournal_ie
Roads still closed in every direction. Luas still at a standstill in both directions
Cordon has been widened now.
It’s understood a man who had a case before the courts was in the building. He produced what he claimed was a gun. He also claimed to have a device. He’s been taking into custody and the Defence Forces will make the scene safe.
