I know for a fact that the authorities involved in the Russia investigation are still scheduling interviews for late January. I’d be surprised if the whole thing was wrapped up prior to the summer of 2019.
Of course it has to wrap up eventually and Mueller might not have enough political capital/time to answer every single question.
There’s no way to say the NBC report is outright false, but I’d be cautious. Mueller could break off the obstruction piece and present his findings on that sooner than the collusion piece.
The investigation can’t go on forever. At some point Mueller has to say ‘we’ve answered the main questions, it’s time to present the findings.’ Subsequent DOJ investigations can take place but Mueller isn’t going to stick around for years.
