it's interesting to ask whether elements of the fake Russian bot program operated by Reid Hoffman and Democrats in Alabama can be distinguished from elements of Mueller's charges against Russian trolls. Not obvious that they can.

2/ Mueller charged that Russian trolls created "false US personas" and "falsely claimed to be controlled by US activists". Appears that Democrats also created false personas and false claims of control - but the opposite. 
3/ Mueller charged that Russian trolls "conspired to obstruct lawful functions of US government through fraud and deceit" by not making "proper regulatory disclosure". Did Reid Hoffman make proper regulatory disclosure? I haven't seen discussion of this yet. Needs to be looked at
4/ Mueller did not merely charge FEC offense but grandiose charge of "conspiracy against United States", an inflation previously over-used by Weissman in Enron cases. If this is correct charge against trolls, then why isn't also correct charge against Democrats?
5/ way in which Mueller et al argued mens rea in Russian troll case also backfires against Democrats. Mueller argued that conspiracy could arise if deceptions made it more difficult for FEC to do its job, even if there was no underlying FEC offense.
6/ sauce for goose is sauce for the gander. By Democrats falsely pretending to be Russians, they made it more difficult for FEC (and FARA) to do their jobs - exactly meeting the elements of Mueller's characterization of Russian troll offenses.
7/ while Democrats seem to have committed exactly the same offense as Russian trolls, it appears that Mueller only charges people for CWR - Campaigning While Republican.
