2018 is a year of changes for me:
- I accomplished a lot at Grammarly and after 8 years there (which is half of my professional life), I left the company.
- I moved to Tbilisi and now figuring out how to create a sustainable lifestyle.
What do I mean by "sustainable setup"?
I own my time. I decide when and where to work or rest.
I don't sell my time. No consulting gigs or full-time jobs. I want to allocate my mindshare consciously.
To achieve sustainability and freedom, I need to build a profitable business. It should support my lifestyle and take a minimum of my time to maintain it.
I moved to Tbilisi, Georgia to have a good starting point. It is a good tax jurisdiction.
A sole entrepreneur that exports IT services pay 1% tax on income less than $200k. 5% is a tax on dividends from an IT company.
The cost of living in Georgia is low compared to California. It will allow me to work on my own for a long time.
I miss California, and I love SF with all the pros and cons of this place. I left my friends there. I appreciate those feelings. But I know I would be happier if I risk and follow my desires.
What kind of business? Software business. Not a startup. Something low-complexity. It should give me a semi-passive income (target $5-10k a month). After that, I can move to a different country when I want.
Also, I want to upgrade my skills. To build one/two-man projects, I need to be a full-stack. I know front-end. Can setup infra with AWS/GCP. Can slowly design things. But non-fluent with data science (DL/ML). It blocks some of my ideas. I'm going to invest time in learning.
Another long-term goal is to spent time with humans. Explore friendship. Share and listen. The first step is to write more.
Wish me luck :)
