Interesting exchange.

As a former CAP employee (well before @kellymagsamen joined) I didn’t recall a deep seated commitment to standing up to authoritarianism abroad. Here are a few other concerning money-trail indicators other than the grant to AEI. 1/5
The UAE contributes “$500,000 to $999,999” per year. They are an authoritarian government with a poor human rights record and a key Saudi ally in the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Yemen.

Were they paying CAP to advance US national security interests or UAE interests? 2/5
While taking UAE $, CAP employed Muath Al Wari, who formerly worked at UAE’s DC embassy & UAE’s Supreme Nat. Sec. Council. When he helped author a CAP report urging closer US ties w/ Gulf autocrats, was he urging the US to “challenge authoritarianism?” lobelog.com/is-cap-shillin… 3/5
CAP Sr. fellow Rudy Deleon receives over $166K per year from arms manufacturer General Dynamics in compensation for serving on their board. Do they pay him to “challenge authoritarianism” or something else? How does his CAP compensation compare to his weapons compensation? 4/5
All this is to say, CAP has some explaining to do. @kellymagsamen, no doubt, defends CAP with the best of intentions. But CAP & some of its employees have a history of cozying up financially w/ govts & companies who don’t share anti-authoritarian & anti-Forever War interests. 5/5
