Praise for Brazil's Bolsonaro from Dave Rubin, Nikki Haley, etc show how shallow and reactionary the US right has become. Instead of believing in things, like freedom, they're united by the people they dislike. Bolsonaro says he hates the same people, so they like him.
(THREAD)
Too much of the US right in 2018 is reactionary, rather than conservative. United by distaste for social justice warriors, cultural marxism, Venezuela (as symbol more than a country), and other flexibly-defined buzzwords, they praise anyone who denounces the people they hate.

Bolsonaro sends troops to confiscate anti-fascist and pro-democracy material from universities and to intimidate them into changing curriculum. But Dave Rubin, who supposedly values free speech, praises Bolsonaro for "trying to get some of the SJW stuff out of schools."

Bolsonaro speaks highly of Brazil's past dictatorships, except he says they didn't go far enough. But he also criticized Maduro in Venezuela, so Nikki Haley excitedly welcomes him as someone who "will join the fight against dictatorships in Venezuela and Cuba."

Libertarians and conservatives supposedly value democracy and individual freedom. But when you define yourself by who you hate--SJWs, marxists, etc--rather than what you value, you end up praising someone who violates your supposed values because he uses the right buzzwords.

It's one thing for the Trump admin to praise Bolsonaro. Brazil is strategically important.
But praise from private citizens isn't national strategy. They're just so fixated on what they hate that they like anyone who says he hates the same things, regardless of details.

And Charlie Kirk takes the shallow, reactionary position popular on the US right and distills it down to it's shallowest, most reactionary essence.
Just use the right culture war buzzwords and you're good.
I know Kirk's not a deep thinker. But he's popular. And that's my point.
