Some fun facts about Grover.
1. His dad was a Vice President at Polaroid who most likely paid that top 70% rate until 1981, when Grover was 25.
2. Despite being expropriated like this, his dad had enough $ to spend his long retirement travelling all over the world.
Every time Grover's dad bought him an ice cream cone, he'd take big bites out of it before handing it over--to demonstrate to his son how taxes worked. That's a heckuva story. bostonglobe.com/magazine/2012/…
It's also 100% NOT how taxes work. We all get things in return for our taxes...like education, infrastructure, a social safety net, clean air and water, etc. Grover's dad taught him that taxation is theft. Grover's dad was wrong. Grover is wrong. And we all have to suffer for it.
More fun facts, this time about Polaroid. Between 1941 and 1945 their gross sales expanded from $1 million to about $17 million. Almost all of that growth came from...you guessed it...government contracts. Grover's dad's beloved Polaroid was built with taxpayer money.
In other, unrelated Grover Norquist news...Frank Gaffney, the far right Islamophobe who's close to the Trump Administration, thinks Norquist is a secret agent working for the Muslim Brotherhood. The movie of Grover's life is going to be wild. huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/05/fra…
I think my favorite fun fact about Grover, however, is that he went to Burning Man a few years back. As I said...the movie of his life is going to be wild. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I have a soft spot for Grover, who was given that name in 1956, long before Sesame Street existed. Here's why. My dad wanted to name me Kermit. This was 1 year before Sesame Street first aired. Dodged a bullet, thx to grandma who put the kibosh on Kermit.
