Why are conservatives so obsessed with the idea that a Democratic president will use emergency powers to confiscate guns or do other dramatically tyrannical things? Last I checked, Trump was brought to us by the party and the voters who comprised "the conservative movement."
It's the guy produced by their movement and their voters who is itching to take on emergency powers for no good reason, yet their best argument against it is a future tripping "but now the libs will do it."
I think this is actually kind of a tell. It shows that they think their readers are actually ok with authoritarianism if it's "their guy" who does it, so they need to talk them off the ledge by reminding them that "a lib could do it too."
