Audition Thread: I used to volunteer to be "a reader" for a well-known casting director just to see auditions. It was invaluable. You'd see how actors would sabotage themselves. All the CD wanted was for them to do it well. Have a take. Be committed.
I would get the actors & try to provide warm energy to calm them before they entered the room. Once an actress came in & I learned that she "crashed" the audition. She found out about it & showed up. She said it felt old Hollywood -- showed her hustle. The CD kicked her out.
And I got to see how there is a process. That there are rules. That there is a time & place for things. There is a difference between "hustle" and "being inappropriate."
It's so hard. So, I always get the desperation. Can't tell you how many people have given me cards with their picture on them at speaking engagements. Not really getting that it doesn't work that way. That they need to do the work. Be in class. Get an agent. Get in from of my CD.
It's not impossible. But it takes time. You must be patient AND do the work.
