Mueller’s team almost never comments on anything, but BuzzFeed reports that it is calling BuzzFeed’s Cohen story “not accurate.”
It‘s possible to parse the Mueller team’s wording here, but they’re clearly saying at least some of the story is wrong. That should get major attention, especially given how very rare it is that they comment on anything.
In other words: the Mueller team’s wording leaves open the possibility that some of the story might be accurate. But the fact that they called substantial elements of the story inaccurate should be taken seriously.
Like lots of the Russia story, this is now going to be a wait-and-see. There’ll be much more news reporting, Cohen will be asked if he testifies again, we’ll hear more from Mueller. There’s no need for anyone to try to sleuth things out in the next five minutes.
