This is how lives begin to unravel. I know. It's happened to me, twice.

Not the same scenario. But you would be surprised how often disparate paths lead to the same destination.

The details may differ, but the pain, struggle, and fight to maintain normalcy are comparable.

1/
Unless you were born into a family of comfortable wealth, with important connections willing to aid you in your journey through life, you can find yourself surprised when a simple stumble suddenly turns into a crippling fall.

Our country is full of people living day to day.

2/
And it is not just the poor, whose books always run into the red, who are incapable of correcting the ship when the winds blow amiss.

Not even close.

I'm often shocked to find that friends who make salaries I couldn't dream of, reveal overdrawn accounts or missed payments.

3/
Paycheck to paycheck is a national reality for most of us in this country. The ability to successfully confront personal and professional setbacks is often decided against how much credit remains on a patchwork of different credit cards.

4/
It's a cruel irony that we are so often forced to borrow at the one time we should not.

The many millions who will be affected by this crisis will all face unsympathetic creditors, missed payment deadlines, & will be forced to make horrible choices for themselves & families.

5/
For many, it might be the first time they are forced to deal with deciding between food and meds, or whether to maintain cell phones or broadband. For them, this will be particularly trying.

Every missed paycheck, every missed rent / mortgage payment is a deep laceration.

6/
One thing that should be of paramount importance to everyone, is how this could adversely effect the credit ratings of hundreds of thousands.

Speaking as someone who after going home to care for his ill mother, watched his CR fall from 740 to 530, I know what's at risk.

7/
Everything in this country is determined by your credit rating. To some it is all they need to know about you to make a decision about your worth as a person.

It affects whether or not you get a house loan and the interest rate you will pay.

These are huge issues.

8/
And fixing a bad CR takes time. Often many times the length of time it took to watch it fall apart.

So, as you see the photos & watch the videos of furloughed workers in actual bread lines please remember that the problems they cutting will soon run beyond mere sustenance.

9/
The game that Trump is engaged in is far more complicated and dangerous than some have considered.

Like everything this man has done since taking office this shutdown will adversely affect too many for too long after he is gone. IT MUST END NOW.

A tragedy.
