Twitter NG and the Social Media space is not to blame for our stupidity, we are who we are, either negative or positive, I have met more amazing people on Nigerian social media than people I have known all my years offline, Also met horrible people, I just avoid them, you can too
Social media does not operate itself, humans doo, in real life we have mobs, when a poor man steals a mobile phone we set them ablaze, we don't take them to the police, it is the same people who set people ablaze in real life who operate on social media, so the problem isn't SM.
We have to advocate for a strong criminal justice system that will gain the confidence of both the accuser and the accused, so alleged rapists and alleged victims will have their day in court and not on social media, hashtags and threads don't bring justice to the oppressed.
We also have tools available on social media that can help mitigate falling into wrong hands, use the block, ignore, mute buttons, you don't have to be friends with people you do not want to, if you get unsolicited messages and you are not comfortable, block the individual.
If you open your private life on social media, you can not stop people from having conversations around it, be careful what you put out to the world, the internet never forgets, set privacy tools to the highest level you can to safeguard against those who may want to hurt you.
Get a life outside social media, do not depend on it too much for your survival, meet real people within your community, reach out to professionals for advise off line before seeking validation on social media, a lot of people are here for entertainment and to mock your situation
Your existence and happiness should not be determined by the number of @facebook friends and likes, @instagram or @Twitter followers or comments on your time line. Keep busy outside of social media, it helps, if you are busy, negative comments will just be amusing to you.
Finally, politics, entertainment, religion or sports, do not take comments and banters on social media too serious, if you find some threatening report to the police, or report to the app platform. Avoid letting other people's opinion get to you, particularly people you dont know
