The average liquor store has just under 1,400 beer items in stock at any given time. That’s up from just over 1,300 back in 2014. In 2015, off-premise large-format (retail) beer sales were growing 5%. At the start of this year, growth had fallen to < 1% nielsen.com/us/en/insights…

A lot has been written about challenges facing journalism this week, but not so much about the business challenges. The formula an owner of a media outlet faces can be represented in a formula: abovethecrowd.com/2012/09/04/the… Each variable in the formula can make or break the business.
Among the critical variables for a media business is "customer acquisition cost." The higher that cost is, the greater the risk that (1) customer churn can result in stranded capital and (2) the business runs out of cash since the CAC is paid up front and revenue often is later.
The cost of acquiring a customer varies based on many factors, but to keep math simple assume it is $100 *on average* for newspapers/mags with significant variability by sales channel. If you look at many industries you can start to guess what CAC is or will be for a new product.

Why not use the term "volatility" to describe volatility? Because without pretending risk is defined by volatility you can't pretend you can quantify all risk with volatility. Pretending is fun and some people will pay you to do it in this way! cnbc.com/2019/01/25/if-…

Fund managers fear volatility since that can cause customers to flee! But customers can also flee due to a permanent loss of capital or a strait line one way drop in value.

Volatility created by markets is what creates investing opportunity for a margin of safety investor.

Pricing power in a value chain is determined by relative scarcity. As the cost of creating the wholesale product decreases, the share of the profit pool realized by businesses that own distribution increases. This is true in every industry, but more so if the service is digital.

Nuclear maintenance would literally be a 100,000 year project with almost no room for error--sorry but I'd rather have a ten year replacement schedule for solar panels, lmao.
Even for so called clean nuclear fusion, the plastics produced by seawater extraction would choke the ocean with plastic is under a decade--and that's assuming clean fusion is possible, and not, y'know, on a 50 year rollout schedule from the present day.
It would take building one solar panel a day for 50 years to compensate for current energy use. It takes 5 years to build a nuclear power plant, this means, on average, 1825 need to be under construction during a year at any given time FOR FIFTY YEARS.

CIA just published its 2018 #FOIA stats, they closed out the year with 2009 backlogged requests.

Their numbers from last year show that, at any given time, I make up about 10% of their backlog.
FBI closed out FY2018 with 5,534 #FOIA requests backlogged – I make up just over 7% of that. (Vexsome indeed)
BTW, if you haven't yet now's the time to file #FOIA requests with different agencies for their lists of vexsome/high volume requesters.
