Our pandering to xenophobia across Europe, and ducking of the responsibility to challenge dishonest scape-goating far-right narratives and highlight the truths around migration and displacement, leaves us with more and more deaths on our doorstep.

I'm a proud remainer - but the EU needs serious reform and we need to lead the efforts. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to tragedy after preventable tragedy. Where is the compassion? The fortress Europe mentality has to go.
Who is making the honest case for our siblings - struck with the misfortune of geography and desperation of circumstance - forced to risk all to leave their beloved homes behind?

Things have to change. More can and must be done. Time to listen to @Refugees

As we begin 2019, I want to give a shout-out to our great NHS - and all the inspiring staff that keep it running during the holidays and throughout the year. Last year the NHS turned 70. We must fight to secure its future for the next 70 years and beyond. (1/)

The Tories have wrecked and ravaged our vital health and social care services for 9 years. Their ‘10-year plan’ is a sham. All the numbers add up to is disaster - insufficient funds, inadequate staffing and lack of foresight.

One thing confuses me - seems apparent Trump was told to run for office as early as 2013 Miss Universe or earlier, so why did Manafort talk his way onto campaign in the middle. Why wasn't Putin already directing it? My theory is Trump wasn't Putin's only GOP candidate....
Russia plays a long game & was cultivating Trump as early as late '80s under Soviets, but they'd be foolish to put all eggs in 1 basket. Seems likely they'd have cultivated others. GOP field was large & perhaps Manafort gets sent to Trump when he emerges as most likely contender.
I find is striking how many GOP - both those who ran as candidates in 2016 & those who didn't - have Russian connections. Remember the video where Roy Moore of Alabama spoke fluent Russian? He can barely speak fluent English, but he's got Russian down pat.

1. When you take a long hard look at the EU machinery over time you come to appreciate it for what it is - a piece of legal technology. The most sophisticated of its kind and though not a democracy, it's mostly benign technocracy that does more good than harm. To a point...
2. Where it works well is in Western Europe and this is chiefly because economic integration and to a point legal integration makes sense not least because it would happen anyway. Western Europe is culturally similar and systems are compatible having evolved at the same time.
3. It makes less sense for the UK because cross border travel is more a novelty than a norm and having been disconnected at various points in history we have evolved our own systems where there is no need for convergence and no value in doing so.
